I spent a couple days in the tiny neighborhood of Canapé Vert in Port-au-Prince Haiti last fall to photograph this self-designed single room home. Josué, the owner, inherited the plot of land in the wake of the 2010 earthquake that decimated PAP and displaced millions. Not knowing what to use the land for, Josue took to putting his design skills and resourcefulness to work and created his personal oasis tucked into the urban hillside of winding streets and hodgepodge dwellings. It was a unique story to document, not just for me but also for Dwell, where the space itself truly came from the heart and translated into a place that genuinely feels like a "home". It was an honor getting up before sunrise and staying past sunset to observe the light and shadow play in such a special place over an entire day.
